3 TOP TIPS TO COVER GREY HAIR
What causes grey hair?
Hair follicles contain pigment cells that make a chemical called Melanin. Melanin gives hair its colour but as we age, these cells begin to degrade and die. Our hair continues to grow but without active pigment cells, new hair strands grow in lighter and take on various shades of grey, silver, and eventually white. This process happens for most women around menopause, if not earlier in their 30s or 40s.
So, although we cannot reverse this genetic process, we've put together 3 tried and tested top tips to help you successfully cover them!
What's the best way to cover grey hair?
When those pesky grey hairs start to appear, many women look for a quick solution to cover them as quickly as possible. If you're finding it’s getting harder to cover the greys between salon appointments, try these tips at home... you may be pleasantly surprised with the effects.
If you also have hair loss, you will know that once the greys are peeking through, hair loss looks worse. Take a few minutes to read below and you will find the dual benefit of covering grey and hair loss.
1. Go lighter
The lighter your hair is, the less contrast there is between grey hair strands and naturally coloured ones. The variance in tone between grey hair and naturally coloured strands will either help or exacerbate the issue or conceal it. Both blonde and platinum blonde tones help to disguise greys more effectively than darker hues. Colouring your hair lighter will help to blend any whiter hairs into your natural hair line and prolong the need for a visit to the hairdresser.
2. Highlight your new hair highlights!
To help camouflage sparse grey hairs, ask your hairdresser to frame your face with highlights. Lightening your roots will make greys less noticeable and give your hair a fresh-looking makeover. Your hair colourist may suggest adding in some additional lowlights as well as highlights to blend in the grey hairs. The more irregular effect that highlights produce, make the appearance of any new greys less dramatic than if they appear on solid, all-over hair colour.
3. Use a grey hair concealer
If you’re looking for a quick fix to cover grey hairs instantly, use a high-quality, powdered grey root concealer like RootZ. Rootz is a professionally designed powder with reflective pigments to easily and instantly cover grey regrowth. The grey concealer comes with a double ended applique brush and compact mirror for easily application.
RootZ can have the dual benefit of not only covering up grey hair, but also making hair loss much less noticeable. Simply brush some RootZ onto your scalp (great in the front!) and then up the grey root of your hair. This is an amazing trick to cover up hair loss around the face!
Did you know that eyebrow hairs go grey too? The smaller end of the applicator brush can be used to thicken and define your eyebrows as well as hide any surprise greys - Bonus! AND also make eyebrows look thicker.

Is there a long term solution to cover grey hairs?
Colouring your hair will reduce the appearance of grey hairs however as your hair grows, so too will the greys! You can always try styling your hair with a head scarf or touching the roots with a grey hair concealer powder.
